This booking entitles you to a one day Slipcasting and Surface Decoration Masterclass with visiting ceramic designer Alex Allday. Alex has a studio in Stoke-on-Trent and produces beautiful, delicate slipcast porcelain pots in her signature blue and white style.
The masterclass will run from 10am - 4pm and is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced potters.
Your experienced tutor will provide you with a comprehensive introduction of how to slipcast in porcelain and apply surface decoration.
During the morning you will learn how to slipcast using plaster moulds to produce your own stem vase, tealight holder / pen pot / plant pot. You will have the opportunity to cast 3 pieces.
After a break for lunch (NB You will need to bring this) you will then learn how to decorate your casted pieces with coloured slips, stains and different tools to creat sgraffito textures and patterns.
You will have the opportunity to practise your designs on clay tiles in advance of applying your design to your pots.
To finish, you will be shown how to fettle your pottery so that your pieces are ready to be fired.
Following the workshop your work will be dried and fired. Your pottery will be available for collection 3 weeks after the course. During term time we are open for collections each Wednesday morning (10am - 12noon), Thursday afternoons (2-4pm) and Thursday evenings (6.30 - 8.30pm). Please call in at any of these times to collect your work.
As there will only be a maximum of 6 students for this masterclass you will have plenty of one-to-one tuition.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, but please bring your own lunch.
Cancellation Policy: As this is a one-off course it is not possible to offer a refund or exchange if you are unable to attend. Please consider finding someone else to take your place, just inform us of the name change before the day.
